Health, Wellness & Illness Policies
The health of every child and every staff member in our facility is a shared responsibility. Our health policies are grounded in Florida DCF requirements, CDC guidance, and our own commitment to maintaining the safest possible environment.
Illness Exclusion Policy
Children and staff must be excluded from the facility when exhibiting the following symptoms:
Fever of 100.4°F or higher — must be fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication before returning
Vomiting — must be symptom-free for 24 hours before returning
Diarrhea — must be symptom-free for 24 hours before returning
Conjunctivitis (pink eye) — must have medical clearance or complete 24 hours of antibiotic treatment
Undiagnosed rash — must have medical clearance before returning
Strep throat — must complete 24 hours of antibiotic treatment before returning
Medication Administration
Peas in a Pod staff may administer medication ONLY under the following conditions:
Written authorization from parent/guardian on file (Brightwheel medication form)
Original prescription label with child's name and current dosage
Medication administered by designated staff only — documented in Brightwheel immediately
Over-the-counter medications require written authorization and must be in original packaging
No medication may be administered without proper authorization — no exceptions
Allergy Management
Every child's allergy information is documented in Brightwheel and posted in their classroom. Staff must review allergy information for every child in their care before every meal and snack.
"An allergic reaction can become life-threatening in minutes. Know your children's allergies. Know where the EpiPens are. Know what to do. Every time."
Staff Health Standards
Staff are expected to model healthy practices and to self-exclude when ill. If you are sick, call your Director immediately — do not come in. Presenteeism (coming to work sick) endangers the children in your care and is not acceptable at Peas in a Pod.
